Vernon A. Gause accused of trying to rape a developmentally disabled woman

Kansas City police found Vernon A. Gause with his pants

and underwear pulled down and on top of a 20-year-old developmentally disabled woman when they arrived at 6th and Superior on May 1. 

A witness called police after seeing Gause, 44, allegedly throw down a woman behind a billboard. Gause allegedly pulled up the woman’s dress, pulled down his pants and

attempted to rape the woman but failed because the woman pushed him off.

The woman told police that Gause had followed her from a bus stop at 10th and Main. She said she tried to get away from him but couldn’t shake him. She claimed Gause told her that he wanted her to “do

something” to him. She said she told him no several times.

Gause claimed the woman was lying, and then he allegedly threatened to

kill her.
