Urban Culture Crossover

Kansas City’s Urban Culture Project experiments with artistic cross-pollination in Things to Be Next To, a collaboration between local artists and creators from the far-off, exotic land of Chicago. The nonprofit Threewalls is a Windy City cognate of the Urban Culture Project, cultivating local talent and collaborating with other arts organizations nationally for exhibits just like this one, which teams KC artists James Woodfill and Warren Rosser with Chicago’s Peter Fagundo and Alberto Aguilar. Woodfill is a minimalist sculptor, and Rosser is a painting professor at the Kansas City Art Institute. Fagundo, an instructor at the Art Institute of Chicago, creates multimedia and installation work. Aguilar is a painter and a professor of art history at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Co-curated by Kate Hackman of the Charlotte Street Foundation and Threewalls’ Shannon Stratton, the exhibit will travel between both cities.
