Urban Chestnut to expand distribution to Kansas City this year

St. Louis brewery Urban Chestnut’s beers will be available in Kansas City later this year.

According to Feast Magazine in St. Louis, Urban Chestnut will be partnering with Major Brands to get its brews into the KC market. Urban Chestnut will also be making inroads in Columbia and Jefferson City, starting this week.

“We’ve been more than eager to supply our beer to these markets for some time now,” co-founder David Wolfe said in a press release. “Columbia’s a natural extension of the St. Louis beer market, Jefferson City is obviously our state’s capitol [sic], and Kansas City … plain and simple knows good beer.”

Aw, we’re flattered.

Urban Chestnut is the Show-Me State’s third-largest craft brewery. Its brewing capacity grew to about 20,000 barrels in February with the opening of a second brewery, the Urban Chestnut Grove Brewery & Bierhall.

Urban Chestnut’s beers come in two series: Revolution (“Our contribution to the renaissance of craft beer – brewing artisanal, modern American beers”) and Reverence (“Our celebration of beer’s heritage – brewing classically crafted, timeless European beer styles”).

We’ve had a taste of Urban Chestnut on the festival circuit – sampling Zwickel (unfiltered German lager), Schnickelfritz (Bavarian weissbier) and, I believe, Stlipa (double IPA) at this year’s Parkville Microbrew Festival – and it’s quality stuff.

Speaking of Major Brands, late last month, the distributor acquired Missouri Beverage Co. (MoBev), a St. Louis-based distributor whose portfolio includes craft brewers Founders Brewing Co. and Rogue Ales & Spirits.

We’ll take all the Founders, please.
