Ups and Downs
Like any band that’s been around since the late 1960s, Poco has had its share of troubles. Just as it built a following back in the day, the band had to change its name — from Pogo, which was lifted from a cartoon. Then, there were the frequent lineup changes; two former members of Poco traded up to the Eagles. Despite some critical attention, Poco never got quite that big. But the dusty rockers just keep on kickin’. A couple of years ago, drummer George Grantham even tried to keep playing through a stroke he suffered onstage. Last year around this time, the band released a live album, The Wildwood Sessions, recorded in Steelville, Missouri. Poco comes back to these parts tonight for a concert at Liberty Hall (644 Massachusetts in Lawrence, 785-749-1972).
