Unwind with Woodwinds

The soundtrack of the city can be a constant drone vibrating the psyche. As the sounds of jackhammers, 200-cc crotch rockets, leaf blowers and dogs drag your midtown ass down, consider the stress relief of the sounds of woodwind instruments. Hoping to “open the audience up to realms beyond the everyday,” Thomas Aber and the Rev. Dwight Frizzell of the World Woodwind Duo invite the receptive to an intimate performance upstairs at Aquarius (3936 Broadway, 816-931-6303) as they combine their musical worlds and guide listeners on Mythic Pathways, a concert ritual. Inspired by myths, “primitive traditions of the cosmos” and improvisational jazz, the pair hope that their 25 years of shared musical intuition will create a playful and creative pathway to the mythical and spiritual spaces and places that are taken for granted in today’s chaotic world. Take an extra step and let go of reality with one of their tunes, “The Goofus Five Meets the Bald-Headed Sea Monster.” The sounds of the gaida, the zwoom, the torupill, the sopika and the wind wand have never been so inviting. Float away on a sea of woodwinds for a suggested $10 donation at 7 p.m.
