Unstoppable Singer

For some folks, just one Christmas show isn’t enough. Local actor, singer and lovable lug James Wright, one of the stars of this year’s Spectacular Christmas at Musical Theater Heritage, bursts with so much of the holiday spirit that even on this Monday night — when shows are dark, and actors can start their drinking early — he’s singing in and producing Cool Yule: A Christmas Cabaret. The one-night-only Christmas cabaret stars such multiple-threat stalwarts as Erica Wright, the powerful Lindsey McKee and strapping young Brandon Sollenberger (fresh off his hilarious turn as an agonized Prince Charming in Into the Woods). Expect an intimate showcase of the traditional and the surprising, just the thing we’d expect from Wright, a performer as adept at the broadly comic as he is at the tender and tasteful. Cool Yule starts at 7:30 p.m. at Just Off Broadway Theatre (3051 Central, 816-784-5020). The $20 admission includes wine and appetizers.
