TWA museum opens today at Wheeler Downtown Airport

- TWA’s history is once again on display in KC.
It’s hard to imagine that flying was once glamorous, plane cabins were as smoky as bars, and your shoes remained on your feet for the entire time you were in the airport. Those days of tied laces and ties loosened after a few preflight cocktails were the “Golden Age” of flying. Today, the only gold you might see is the jewelry you have to hock at a cash-for-gold place in order to pay for your ticket.
But if you’ve got a few bucks in your pocket still and can make your way down to the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, you can get a glimpse into the history of a local flier: Trans World Airlines. The TWA Museum is scheduled to open today at 10 Richards Road with a 5:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony and an open house until 7.
