Tune-Yards and Here We Go Magic turn lo-fi to hi-fi at the Jackpot

Merrill Garbus, better known to fans by her stage name Tune-Yards (or any variant of that, a la tUnE-YaRdS), is a bit of a one-woman tour-de-force indie outfit who manipulates lo-fi live techniques to produce rich and layered sound. Using drum loops, her ukulele, vocal stylings, and electronic bass (often played by friend and bassist Nate Brenner), Garbus has garnered a decent following for her unique talents, and was was even recognized by the folks at Blackberry when her song “Fiya” was featured on the 2010 Blackberry Torch commercial campaign. She’ll be hand-crafting songs live on the Jackpot Music Hall stage in Lawrence early next month, along with psych-pop crew Here We Go Magic and DIY indie-grass duo Buke & Gass
