Tunes in Babeland

For die-hard followers of Showtime’s lesbian drama The L Word, this month is one of mourning. In years past, fans packed a local movie theater for sold-out premiere events, collectively gasping, groaning and gleefully anticipating the death of that annoying little weasel Jenny Schecter. Well, fear not, L Word lovers: The Human Rights Campaign, the national gay and lesbian advocacy organization that hosted those festive events, is still throwing a massive party for the ladies, even though the TV show has called it quits. Stocked with local celebrities and homegrown talent, the Bliss Battle of the Bands burns up Crosstown Station (1522 McGee) from 3 to 9 p.m. A dozen female-dominated musical acts, both acoustic and electric, duke it out in front of a panel of VIP judges, including Missouri State Sen. Jolie Justus. Will Girls Who Love Bacon fry Mercury Mad and the Plastic Bitches? Will Last Call Girls have the final word over the Fits? For $10, you can find out — and get an annual membership to HRC. To avoid the line at the door (or a very possible sellout), buy tickets online at hrc.org/sites/herhrc.
