Trip Aces

The arc of Chuck Norris’ life goes like this: Air Force, karate-school entrepreneur, movie star, faded movie star, Walker: Texas Ranger, infomercial spokesman, Internet meme. Now he’s a right-wing pundit, easily the least-interesting of all possible culminations of that trajectory, but he’s still a pop-culture icon and a point of reference both ironic and not. Alison Filley’s Chuck Norris poster is one of the images you’ll see through August 20 at Pop, one of three great exhibitions on display at the Lawrence Art Center (940 New Hampshire, 785-843-2787). Pop includes works by Archie Scott Gobber, Jaimie Warren, Kendra Marable and Joelle Ford. Speaking of Ford, her exhibit Art Clips continues at the center through August 7. Her work includes dimensional collage, but the pieces on exhibit are flat collages incorporating vintage photographs and drawings that Ford has collected over the years. Finally, through August 20, Danielle Yakle’s fiber installation Futilitarian is an imposing display of organic forms suspended in a large gallery space.
