Here we have all the ingredients for a winter of discontent: physical deformity, jealousy, sibling rivalry, relentless ambition, determination, treachery, Machiavellian gamesmanship, an unexpectedly suave way with the ladies, and a kill-’em-all-and-let-God-sort-it-out mentality that rank Shakespeare’s Richard III among the most diabolical yet undeniably compelling villains. (He’s like Ernst Blofeld with a royal bloodline and no high-tech gadgetry.) Johnson County Community College’s Music and Theatre Department filters this oft-told, old-school tale of iniquity and retribution through a modern, apocalyptic prism in the Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center (12345 College Boulevard, Overland Park). The production continues tonight and Saturday at
7:30 p.m. and concludes with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 913-469-3245 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
