The Kansas City Chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) holds its annual Hemp Fest at Shelter 3 in Swope Park (Meyer Boulevard and Swope Parkway). It’s a day of music and marijuana mobilization in the sun. Among the musical acts are Harmony Lovell and Mojo Lotus, and the speakers include peace activist Sahj Kaya. You can bet your Woody Harrelson on the presence of some drum circles, too. This year’s fest is in memory of the father of the modern hemp movement, Jack Herer. Candles, and possibly other things, will be lit in his honor. Admission is free, and the festivities spark up at noon. For more information and a map to Shelter 3, see kcnorml.org.
