Trans Gathering

The next five days of dressing up, drinking, socializing and learning are things that Trisha Lynn of Hays, Kansas, looks forward to every year. She calls it “living the dream.” For transgender folks and cross-dressers, the annual Fall Harvest conference can be like a sparkling oasis in an otherwise drab existence. “A lot of these people will come back year after year after year and attend it,” Lynn says. “And that will be the only time they ever do come out.” That’s why she stepped up when organizers canceled the conference two years ago. After bouncing around the Midwest for years, Fall Harvest will now have a permanent home in Kansas City, Lynn says. This year’s conference kicks off today at the Holiday Inn on the Plaza (1 East 45th Street, 816-753-7400). For a complete schedule of events and registration discount, see fallharvest.org.
