Touch It

If you’ve ever resented the invisible line that separates viewers from the rarefied art at most galleries and museums, head over to the Kansas City Art Institute’s H&R Block Artspace (16 East 43rd Street), where works by more than 160 local artists makes up Flatfile, an interactive show that lets you put your paws all over the art. Flatfile is a biennial invitational exhibition that spotlights the drawings, photography, prints and mixed-media works of established and emerging talents. This year’s artists include KCAI alumni and faculty members and Charlotte Street Foundation award recipients. Between 6 and 8 tonight, you can browse portfolios from the cabinets or choose videos to screen. And unlike most static exhibits, Flatfile evolves during its tenure: Over the course of the exhibition, guest curators select art from the cabinets for the changing salon-wall installations.
