As depicted in Barbershop, inner-city haircut-and-beauty establishments can be havens for amusing antics and serious social bonding. Ace (3404 Main) is such a place, a community fixture where Danny Murray has been cuttin’ heads for 55 years. But unfortunately, life behind the scissors isn’t all civil-rights-leader baiting and good-natured apple-juice swiping. On December 27, this master of the clippers and sheers was attacked and stabbed while at his pole position. In the spirit that Ace’s big-screen counterpart celebrates, Davey’s Uptown, Murray’s next-door neighbor, has hastily assembled a fund-raising marathon to help pay the 77-year-old’s mounting medical expenses. Acoustic performers such as Justin Petosa (pictured) take the stage from 1 to 5 p.m., then noted noisemakers such as Keely Zoo close the affair from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. If ever there were a time to use a check to pay your concert cover, this is it — make ’em out directly to Daniel R. Murray.
