Tonight: Sku and Tactic try out a new toy at YEEEAH BUDDY!

Every since the Tragic Snake Bite Kit Mishap of ’98, we here at The Pitch have been reluctant test new products. And that’s why we’ve enlisted professional help to test this little gadget, the Tonium Pacemaker “pocket-sized DJ system.”

Collapsing turntables, mixer, record crates into one smaller-than-a-Gameboy handheld device, the Pacemaker claims to possess all you need to DJ anytime, anywhere. Earlier this week, after seeing an ad for it in XLR8R, enterprising staffer Nadia Pflaum wrote the Tonium company, and within days, they’d sent us a tester. Despite watching this video, in which a British woman with a distractingly low-cut dress explains how it works, we were still befuddled.

So we turned to our friends, DJs Sku and Brent Tactic, and challenged them to use it at tonight’s YEEEAH BUDDY! gig at the Czar Bar. Sku came by the office yesterday to pick up the Pacemaker and, hopefully, figure out how the dang thing works.

We’re looking forward to seeing how Sku and Brent manage to work it into their set. Maybe they’ll even get down on the dance floor and boogie while mixing.

Will our heroes prevail? Will the Tonium prove pro-DJ friendly? Will the thing get smashed, and will we have to pay $500 to replace it? Find out tonight at the Czar Bar, where Sku and Brent T. (who, with Portland-based Ben Fuller, is one half of the partnership behind Think 2wice Records) spin funky, eclectic, dance-rockin’ beats. Keep tabs and download exclusive mixes at the YEEAH BUDDY blog.
