Todd Haley’s fourth-down calls: icey veins or soupy brain?

Chiefs coach Todd Haley has managed to endear both the ends of the football-fan spectrum with his aggressive fourth-down philosophy. To the beer-crushing, meat-sucking masses, he is “ballsy.” To the stat-crunching spreadsheeters, he is savvy — so much so he was the Advanced NFL Stats Coach of the Week.

But his call during Saturday’s win over the Jaguars — to go for it on fourth-and-three at the Jaguars 25-yard line, up eight points in the fourth quarter — left people scratching their beer helmets, and maybe even their mouse pads.
