Tips Are Not Enough

The folks at Greater Kansas City Jobs With Justice and Recycled Rockstar Industries are teaming up to fight an effort to repeal part of a law, passed in 2006, that gave Missourians not only a better minimum wage but also the promise of cost-of-living adjustments (COLA). The battle plan for the Save Our Raise campaign includes a benefit show starring Under the Black Sails, Red Kate and Dream Wolf. Admission to the gig at Gusto Lounge (3810 Broadway, 816-974-8786) is free, but donations will be accepted. (And Gusto will match the first $200 raised.) With prices like $4 for Jameson, a Svedka bomb or a yard beer and an Old Crow shot, it’s hard to justify not throwing a few extra dollars in the kitty for the future of the livelihoods of all minimum-wage and tipped workers. The show starts at 10 p.m., and the bar closes at 3 a.m.
