Time Warp
Ever feel like going back in time? Say, to the year 1914? If so, the place to visit is Pierpont’s at Union Station (30 West Pershing, 816-221-5111), a crown jewel among KC historical preservations.Alas, there’s no newfangled time machine on hand waiting to zap you back in time at Union Station (yet), but what is available is Pierpont’s Fantastic Four Happy Hour. From 4 to 6 p.m. in the front lounge, Pierpont’s offers an array of appetizers, cocktails and wine for $4 each. But really, the food and libations nearly pale in comparison with the atmosphere: meticulously restored marble floors, vintage Mucha prints, 30-foot-high ceilings. The stunning 22-foot-high bar is accented by an old-school library ladder that gets much use as sharply dressed bartenders zip to the top and back again, giving true meaning to the phrase top-shelf liquor.
