Tick Tock

6/24-6/27
Out of equal parts inspiration and frustration, James Moore has created South of Heaven Productions, a new theater company that hits the ground running with David Ives’ comedy All in the Timing. After watching opportunities for paid acting gigs evaporate, Moore says, “I decided to pay myself.” For the debut production, he’s chosen a playwright known for his engaging wordplay who isn’t often produced locally. Moore describes All in the Timing as six one-acts that have appeared on stages as individual pieces or, as he’s presenting them, in bulk. Most promising among them is “Speed-the-Play,” a satiric take on David Mamet’s work that Moore says compresses four Mamet plays into 7 minutes.

Moore splits the run of the show into two blocks and spreads it across two states, performing this week at the Daily Dose Bar and Coffee House, (12056 Quivira in Overland Park) and again in July at the Westport Coffee House (4010 Pennsylvania). On the Strip

FRI 6/25
We heard a rumor that Lawrence has yet to appreciate the burlesque invasion — until now. Blow-Chi and the Burly-Q Girly Crew perform Thrill Time a Go-Go at 10 p.m. Friday at the Jackpot Saloon (943 Massachusetts). Call 785-832-1085 for more information. — Annie Fischer

Incest Is Best

FRI 6/25
Ghosty, the catchiest indie-rock outfit around, is as much a band as it is a club for pop geniuses. The lineup for Friday’s show at the Eighth Street Taproom (801 New Hampshire in Lawrence) includes (among others) recent arrivals Andrew Sallee of Namelessnumberheadman on drums and Jeff Ferrell of the now-defunct but not forgotten trio the Hardaways on guitar, keyboards and percussion. Jacob Baum, who produced Ghosty’s Five Short Minutes EP back when he used to play bass in the band, opens with laptop beats under the name Jonathan Nagel. The show should start around 10:30 p.m. and costs just $2. Call 785-841-6918 for details. — Michael Vennard

His Dudeness

FRI 6/25
The only thing we know about Devin the Dude is that all the MCs are psyched that he’s coming to the Bottleneck (737 New Hampshire in Lawrence) on Friday. Before Devin went solo in 1998 with The Dude, which earned him comparisons to Too Short and Dolemite, he was a member of The Odd Squad and, later, Facemob. We’ve heard that his sing-songy MC style is like a hilariously smutty Warren G. Opening for the Dude are Mac Lethal, Carnage and 3 P.M. Call 785-841-5483 for details. — Vennard
