Throwback Thursday: Watch performances and interviews from KJHK’s 2009 Farmers’ Ball

Farmers’ Ball, the annual battle of the bands sponsored by the University of Kansas’ student-run radio station, KJHK, celebrates 21 years with this Saturday’s preliminary competition at the Bottleneck. But for an event with so much history, it’s kinda hard to find video footage of many of the past performers. KJHK’s started to rectify that with their “Live at KJHK” webseries, but most of the archival video extant is pretty lacking.

That’s what makes this two-part 2009 video from The University Daily Kansan such a treat. You get glimpses of performances at the Bottleneck and Jackpot, as well as some insight into how bands are chosen for the competition, as well as what the bands themselves think of the competition. There are interviews and performances from Cloud Dog, Dutch Newman, Katlyn Conroy and the California Craisins, with Conroy the eventual victor. View below, and don’t miss Farmers’ Ball on Saturday at the Bottleneck.

Farmers’ Ball semi-finals take place at the Bottleneck in Lawrence on Saturday, April 18. Details here.
