Throwback Thursday: Listen to a Rex Hobart & the Misery Boys set from 2002 in advance of their Saturday show at Davey’s

The weather’s getting lovely outside, and there’s nothing that sounds finer than sitting out on the porch and listening to some tunes while knocking back a few beers. One of the finer genres for porch-drinking is honky tonk, and there’s few finer purveyors of that sound than Kansas City’s Rex Hobart & the Misery Boys.

The band has a new album out on Little Class Records entitled Long Shot of Hard Stuff, and it’s rather excellent, but that’s no surprise — Hobart and his boys have been kicking out tunes since the late ’90s. Take a listen to some vintage Rex and the Boys from 2002, seemingly recorded in someone’s backyard on June 26 of that year, demonstrating that pairing Rex, beers, and a porch has been a quality idea for over a decade. And then read this week’s feature story on Hobart here

Rex Hobart & the Misery Boys play Davey’s Uptown on Saturday, May 2, with the Grisly Hand. More information about that show is available here.
