This is Kansas City’s worst crime story of 2012 so far

  • This is bad story.

And now for something completely awful… The Star has a nominee for Kansas City’s saddest and cruelest crime story of the year. Grandmother Vera Adams has been charged with assault for allegedly attacking the 23-year-old girlfriend of Adams’ son. The scene that prosecutors have constructed sounds unbelievable:

Late Saturday night, Adams called the victim and asked her to return a car to Adams. The victim strapped her 11-month-old baby — Adams’ grandchild — into the car and drove to Adams’ house. Adams, 42, then allegedly got into the front seat and drove the victim back to her house. Prosecutors say Adams berated the victim for not returning the car earlier. The victim then didn’t get out of the car fast enough for Adams’ taste, and Adams allegedly attacked the young mother with brass knuckles that had a knife attached to them while the victim held her child.

“Adams knocked the victim and the baby to the ground, then slashed at the victim with the brass knuckles when the victim tried to stand, according to court records,” the paper reports. The victim had a 10-inch wound from from the top of her head to the chin. The paper says she was rushed into plastic surgery. Adams has been charged with one count each of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and possessing an illegal weapon.

Police say Adams told the victim “I got you,” after the attack.

So much for society, folks.
