The Year of Sluttery remounts at the West Bottoms Black Box Theater
Fringe Fest favorite Scarlett brings her treasured stories to a bigger stage for more to see.
The Best of Fringe 2022 one-woman show The Year of Sluttery is set to return to KC at the West Bottoms Black Box theater Feb. 9 through Feb. 11, 2023.
The Year of Sluttery is a solo show performed and written by Scarlett [a stage name to protect the innocent.] The show follows her various dating endeavors and other romantic wisecracks.
Scarlett describes her show as a place where “people can laugh their asses off and have fun.” When talking about the effect of this show on her own life, Scarlett says, “I can make people laugh and commiserate over the whole online dating bullshit. I love seeing that I can do those things and also have so much fun doing it.”
While anybody can take numerous things from Year of Sluttery from its various stories and anecdotes about relationships and flings, Scarlett hopes that audiences will walk away with a sense of confidence and empowerment in their own romantic and sexual relationships.
Scarlett says, “the number one thing is that it’s okay to have sex and it’s okay to like sex!” Similarly, she also wants people to “do themselves and to just fucking enjoy your life.”
Even though the majority of the show relies on Scarlett’s story-telling, she has also incorporated several physical comedy aspects such as a town fair-esque prize wheel for viewers to spin to determine the next tale. Scarlett has also taken choreography and elements from the hit musical Chicago to tie her whole performance together.
Despite its premiere in 2022, Scarlett has great ambitions for The Year of Sluttery. Because of its raw and candid nature, the show continues to expand and adapt to her current dating life as Scarlett actively blogs her dating endeavors for herself to reflect on later.
Talking to Scarlett felt like connecting with an old friend as she has a warm, inviting, hilarious personality. Even if you have no experience with online or casual dating yourself, watching Scarlett perform and hearing her stories can inspire you to take control of your own sex life and most importantly, learn how to have fun.
Tickets are available via Eventbrite with both single ticket and table rates.
