The Urge

It’s a short reunion tour for the Urge, consisting of just a trio of dates, but it’s good that Lawrence is one of the stops. Until its 2001 breakup, the ska-punk band best known for “Jump Right In” (from 1998’s Master of Styles) could always count on a crowd built from its word-of-mouth reputation for a killer live show. The Urge even had something of an honorary local band status, having snagged the opening spot on 105.9 KLZR’s comp Big Sandwich when the station still spun modern rock. That incarnation of the Lazer is long gone, and the Urge itself broke up after a fourteen-year run, but early word from the band’s hometown of St. Louis, where it played a string of sold-out shows around Christmas, is that the boys still have it.
