The Tony Reedus ‘Frontiers’ Quartet

It’s somewhat rare to see a drummer get top billing, but then, few drummers have Tony Reedus‘ résumé. This percussionist and bandleader has performed with the Mingus Big Band, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, among others. He’s joined by an all-star ensemble that includes guitarist John Abercrombie, whose 1975 album, Timeless, has been hailed as a landmark link between the Bitches Brew era and ’80s jazz; bassist John Patitucci, who accompanied Chick Corea in his Elektric and Akoustic Bands; and saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, son of the legendary John Coltrane who has carved out his own niche with his innovative minimalist work, Moving Pictures. Under Reedus’ leadership, this quartet pushes its considerable creativity to new limits during its live performances, so don’t miss this rare opportunity to see esteemed veterans and rising stars improvising and interacting on unique, distinctly modern compositions.
