The Temper Trap on June 8

The Temper Trap is stopping by Crossroads KC on June 8. You’ll recognize their hit, “Sweet Disposition,” from the derivative slop that is 500 Days of Summer (and because 96.5 The Buzz is currently playing the shit out of it). The Aussie band crafts grandiose anthems aimed at Coldplay and Snow Patrol fans. Frontman Dougie Mandagi’s voice is a ruthlessly airbrushed version of Jeff Buckley’s falsetto, and the band’s soaring orchestrations are chill-worthy, even if there’s not a helluva lot of depth to them. But, faux-“infinite” music is perfect for an outdoors summer concert, after all; and openers War Paint more than make up for the  indie cred that the Temper Trap may be lacking. War Paint caught ears in the blogosphere last year with “Billie Holiday” — their winding, chant-like tribute to the Smokey Robinson-written tune “My Guy” — and their slow-burning acoustic lilt adds ground to the Temper Trap’s sky-high aspirations.
