The Tallest Man on Earth, Sunday night at Liberty Hall (photos, setlist)
The Tallest Man on Earth
Liberty Hall
Sunday, April 28
The Tallest Man on Earth is Kristian Matsson. He’s just one man with many guitars, an impressive light show, and a surprisingly upbeat mood for someone who traffics is such sad songs. On Sunday at Liberty Hall, Matsson told us the stories behind many of his songs. “Running Styles of New York,” for example, was inspired by an elderly neighbor of Matsson’s who’d come bursting up the stairs every day to greet his wife with a big “Honey, I’m home!” Several hundred people turned out for the show, but these kinds of disclosures made it feel more like a living room performance, with Matsson stomping and swaying as he strummed his way through a lengthy set list. The audience didn’t murmur, chat, or interrupt a single song. Matsson held them in the palm of his hand.
