The Sex Police
Wikipedia says that in the 1995 film The World’s Biggest Gang Bang, Singaporean actress Annabel Chong set some kind of world record by engaging in 251 sex acts with about 70 dudes. In tribute, the area’s newest and swankiest live ska band, the Sex Police, has named its first original song after her. The porno paean is just one sultry tune in the Sex Police’s growing list of reggae-rooted songs. The band formed sometime around last November, when members of groups such as the Architects, the Stella Link and Doris Henson decided it was time to revisit ska, a genre that was huge here in the ’90s. Fortunately, they looked further back in music history, calling up the irie styles of old-school skankers like the Specials and the Skatalites. In other words, the Sex Police’s jams are long, cool and smooth, not fast, punky and obnoxious. If we were to reshoot The World’s Biggest Gang Bang, we’d definitely tap these horny cops for the soundtrack. And then we’d get rid of the 70-plus dudes. Hold on, Annabel, we’re comin’.
