The Rev. Mark Kiyimba, opponent of Uganda’s proposed anti-gay legislation, will speak in Overland Park this weekend

The Rev. Mark Kiyimba fled Uganda in March, fearing for his safety after becoming an outspoken opponent of the proposed anti-homosexuality legislation in that East African country. Kiyimba’s upcoming appearances in Overland Park this weekend are significant because of Kansas City-based evangelist Lou Engle, who exported his homophobic agenda to Uganda last year, endorsing lawmakers’ efforts to lengthen jail
terms and expand the death penalty for gay “crimes.”
Kiyimba is now in America, attempting to alert this country to the persecution of gay and lesbian Ugandans (and even the murder of Ugandan gay rights activists such as David Kato). He’ll speak three times this weekend, starting Saturday afternoon (May 28) at the Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church in Overland Park.
