The Real Tuesday Weld

The Real Tuesday Weld isn’t actually the real Tuesday Weld at all. Rather, the bona fide Tuesday Weld is an alluring actress who made a name for herself on TV’s The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis playing Thalia Menninger before she broke into movies. Most recently she appeared in the Keanu Reeves bomb Feeling Minnesota, but her résumé also boasts a 1960 flick called Sex Kittens Go to College, and that’s where the two Tuesday Welds find some common ground. L’amour et La Morte is five tracks of nostalgic goodness that bring to mind the carefree days when movies such as Sex Kittens were at the drive-in and songs such as these lounge-ready gems served as the soundtrack. These songs come off as smooth as a swinging bachelor actor from the films of yore, the type of character who tries to sound foreign and worldly even though it’s painfully obvious he’s never been outside of Jersey, then manages to get chicks to buy into his scam through the power of pure charisma. The Real Tuesday Weld hits its stride when it drops old-school hip-hop beats into its exotic tunes, which end up sounding better shaken, not stirred.
