The Powerless

Hey, you, giant utility company! Let’s ignore the fact that you crept over and shut my electricity off without so much as a hint. Not even 30 minutes after you took away my electricity at around 10 a.m. on a weekday, I paid up. And what did you tell me? You informed me that your policy states all disconnections must wait 24 hours before any services can be restored. Have you been outside? It’s 100 degrees, with a stale wind at best. My little battery-operated clock/thermostat read 96 degrees in my living room by 3 that afternoon. Without so much as a fan to save me from the heat, I was forced to flee to a friend’s house, dogs and cats included. I don’t understand how you can inflict so much suffering and blame the “company policy.” Surely your policy of doom can be replaced by human compassion. I suppose when you’re sitting in a climate-controlled cubicle, the misery of others doesn’t affect you at supermega utility company.
