Baseball in Kansas City in October doesn’t seem so farfetched anymore. The Kansas City Royals are in first place in the American Central. The boys in blue made the cover of Sports Illustrated (well, the regional edition). And by the time division-rival Detroit rolls into Kauffman Stadium for this season-ending three-game homestand, a playoff berth will most definitely be up for grabs. Maybe it’s time to go retro, embrace the “our time” slogan and be Royals.

Chiefs vs. Patriots | 7:30 p.m. Arrowhead Stadium

The pageantry of pro football’s biggest weekly game is coming to Arrowhead Stadium, and with it possibly the game’s most hated (and respected) coach, the hooded-sweatshirt-wearing Darth Vader of the NFL, Bill Belichick. How good will the 2014 Chiefs be on the field? Eh, it’s too early to know. But one thing we’re sure about is that Arrowhead will be electric under the bright lights of the World Wide Leader in Sports.

NBA basketball: Golden State Warriors vs. Miami Heat | 7:30 p.m. Sprint Center (1407 Grand)

LeBron James has taken his talents back to Cleveland, but there are still good reasons to hit Kansas City’s annual NBA consolation game. Golden State boasts the game’s best backcourt, sharpshooting Super Splash Bros. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. And the Heat? Well, there are never any promises that Dwyane Wade will suit up, but Chris Bosh gets an opportunity to prove he’s still a top guy. And with Kansas City unlikely to get another NBA franchise, this game will have to satisfy those longing for the days of the Kansas City Kings.
