The Part Where We Go Out Three Nights In A Row To Find Stuff To Blog About

In other words, the weekend.

FRIDAY

We already did stories on the Golden Republic‘s final show, the Nomathmatics with Shanthrax and the Gaslights would-have-been CD-release party. At the Brick tonight, the Ants play with a new band called the Tree (featuring In the Pines’ violinist Laurel Morgan), and Chris Schutz from Philadelphia’s the Tourists backs up and trades off with fellow Philadelphian Steph Hayes of the Good Problems .

Sterilize Stereo spreads the love Sat. at the Brick.

SATURDAY

More at the Brick: Kasey Rausch’s punkabilly River City Revelators revelate and Sterilize Stereo sterilizes. Actually, I’ve seen Sterilize Stereo a couple of times, and despite the hinky name, they’re well worth checking out. With a cello instead of a bass, a girl who plays keys, xylophone and mandolin, plus an electric guitarist, drummer and a singer who plays acoutsic guitar, this band puts on a unique show. It’s hard to sum up, but think Kurt Weill-like cabaret, weirder Tom Waits stuff and experimental musical theatre or vaudeville from the ’30s. The songs aren’t catchy, but the music is interesting, and the band is fun to watch, especially frontman Jake Kersley, who belts like an old-school Broadway diva.

BX3 at Knuckleheads. Bass players who can, like, shred are hard to come by. Let Stu Hamm, Jeff Berlin and Billy “from Mr. BigSheehan wow you with their four-string chops and sextuplet riffs that will drown out any and all cries for To Be With You” .

Check our pages for other shit, and whatever you do, don’t drive drunk, and don’t look here for moral support — our hands are full with Nadine.
