The Model Congress

One of the best things about watching the local music landscape is when new bands stagger out of the woods and make you think, Where the hell did they come from? In the case of the Model Congress, the answer is Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the husband-and-wife songwriting team of Thomas and Sarah Mueller resided before recently returning to their Kansas City home. The duo played in a KC band called Cheating Kay in the earlier part of the decade and now appears to be reforming in a bigger and more badass fashion. Now a quartet, the group comes out of hiding tonight to play its first show and celebrate the release of a slick-sounding EP titled I, which channels the dense, film-noir moodiness of Radiohead and Elbow. Could we be witnessing the birth of a fitter, happier, more productive Model?
