The Kansas Department of Wildlife just laid off a bunch of workers
The pressures on state agencies in Kansas are at an all-time high as a result of Gov. Sam Brownback’s radically conservative scorched-earth policies. Last week, budget constraints hit a breaking point at the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, and 75 seasonal employees were laid off, the AP reports. That includes services all across the board in the department: administrative, law enforcement, fish and wildlife, education. Robin Jennison, Secretary of the KDWPT, said he plans to lobby the Legislature to reverse the staff reductions when the 2014 session rolls around next month. But right now, odds are looking pretty long on moderate-conservationist conservative types in the Kansas Legislature getting something like that past the starve-the-gubmint Tea Party faction.
