The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne is coming to Love Garden on December 22

If you squint, Wayne Coyne could pass for a weird, scraggly Santa Claus. At least, it seems that’s the role he’s playing this year. The Flaming Lips frontman has just announced a five-date Record Store Tour, starting this Thursday and ending on Sunday, December 22, at Love Garden Sounds in Lawrence.

The press release doesn’t say anything about Coyne performing. Rather, Coyne will be greeting fans, signing autographs, and selling a some limited edition Flaming Lips merchandise – in case you’re still trying to figure out the rest of your holiday shopping list.

Coyne will be bringing with him copies of the 1983 Flaming Lips 2nd Cassette Demo (re-released on vinyl) as well as very special copies of the Flaming Lips 1st EP (last available in 1986). Each EP also includes an “anatomically correct and life-sized… hand-crafted, custom-made solid chocolate skull.” In true Wayne Coyne fashion. It’s a little Willy Wonka-esque: Each skull conceals a gold coin, redeemable for admission to any headlining Flaming Lips show in the world.

Coyne is set to appear at Love Garden at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 22. More info on the Flaming Lips website.
