The Fixe Is In

You know that restaurant you keep meaning to try? Well, this is the week to do it. The second annual Kansas City Restaurant Week starts today and runs through January 30. Close to 100 restaurants are offering prix fixe menus for lunch ($15) and dinner ($30), with 10 percent of the cost of each meal going to Harvesters. Don’t miss the three-course lunch at Extra Virgin (1900 Main, 816-842-2205), where baked mussels, fig and chorizo chicken, and crema catalana are on the menu. And think about dinner at Julian (6227 Brookside Plaza, 816-214-8454), which plans caviar chips, seared whole trout, and a Sumatra mocha pudding. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Drum Room (1335 Baltimore, 816-303-1686) has bison short rib and stout ginger cake, while the schweinebraten at Grünauer (101 West 22nd Street, 816-283-3234) is a belly-busting plate of roast pork loin, bread dumplings and red cabbage.
