Mark Twain wrote a series of books about Adam and Eve that were published in the form of journals kept by the biblical first inhabitants of Earth. Together, they document a funny but ultimately sad and wistful love story.On meeting Eve, Adam wrote, “This new creature with the long hair is a good deal in the way. It is always hanging around and following me about. I don’t like this; I am not used to company. I wish it would stay with the other animals.” Likewise, after meeting Adam, Eve wrote, “It looks to me like a creature that is more interested in resting than in anything else. It would tire me to rest so much … I do wonder what it is for; I never see it do anything.”The Metropolitan Ensemble Theater presents a script-in-hand reading of The Diaries of Adam and Eve at 2 p.m. today at the Kansas City, Missouri, Public Library’s Plaza Branch (4801 Main).
