The Faint

In a world where YouTube is king, a band’s popularity can hinge on one clever video (case in point: OK Go and those treadmills). But for Omaha, Nebraska’s the Faint, multimedia isn’t reserved for some 15-year-old kid checking out bands while the porn finishes downloading on his parents’ dial-up; it’s an integral part of the live experience. On the group’s last tour, two enormous screens adorned the back of the stage, displaying rough-hewn images in sync with the band’s dance-punk synths and hooks. In fact, some of the visuals — the most memorable being “Paranoiattack,” in which cable news anchors Brit Hume and Anderson Cooper lip-sync the song’s anti-war lyrics in time to frontman Todd Fink’s actual onstage singing — will have you asking “How the hell did they do that?”
