The Download

Touting itself as “the world’s only mash-up rock band,” San Francisco’s Smash-Up Derby is taking the clever editing of bastardized pop to a whole new level. Sure, it may seem like a shameless guise for a cover act, but the Derby’s version of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House,” sung to the tune of Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out,” is actually quite brilliant. “Smells Like Billie Jean”? Not so much. Download them both — and more — at the group’s Web site. Something tells us these guys have spent way too much time watching the Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in the background.
