KC Current share proposals, renderings for future community expansion concepts around stadium
On Monday, the Kansas City Current announced new developments for the Berkley Riverfront, set to break ground at the end of 2024, with 2026 being the expected completion date.
Having already reinvested in the riverfront area by building CPKC Stadium—The first ever stadium exclusively built for a women’s soccer team—the Current are now pushing for a more inclusive and interactive space to coincide with the venue.
In a press release, the team stated, “Our plan for continued investment in Berkley Riverfront Park is to develop a mixed-use district that will extend Kansas City to the water’s edge and provide a one-of-a-kind, pedestrian-focused experience for KC Current fans, Berkley Riverfront residents, and visitors alike.”
This plan has been somewhat expected of the team and city, considering there was not much for the riverfront to offer prior to the stadium’s development.
The team has plenty of ideas surrounding these new developments, including hundreds of new residential units, a town square, along with new local restaurant additions and expansions. These renovations are all in place with hopes that those within the metro will be able to enjoy a space nearby the stadium, offering use of the basically untouched riverfront land, regardless if they will be attending a match or not.
Overall, the layout and renderings of the early development ideas prove that the Kansas City Current is all in on building a great relationship with fans and the city as a whole.
“Matchday or not, our focus is to create an unforgettable experience for all,” the team stated in the press release.
