The Beatbox: Joc Max

DJing can be a lot like dating: Fully booked weekends are pretty good measurements of success. Based on that metric, Joc Max, known to friends and family as Thomas McIntosh, is at the top of his record-spinning game. This weekend, Joc Max will keep Kansas City crowds rocking with hip-hop beats on both Friday and Saturday nights. Joc Max takes his turntables first to the Riot Room from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday for the Lovely Organic eco-friendly T-shirt release party. He’ll be joined by fellow hip-hop veteran Reach, as well as an assortment of other local music artists, including DJ Clockwerk (originally from KC, now living in Chicago) and Deuce Fontane of the Soul Servers. Saturday night, Joc will have to recuperate quickly before heading to Tower Tavern, where he’ll be accompanied on the evening’s lineup by Matt Hill of the Floozies. Joc, a stalwart of the local hip-hop scene who has flirted with national success, can be thankful he’s married. Dating, at this rate, would be nearly impossible.
