The Bad Ideas will wash your busted-ass ride at the Blind Tiger Friday afternoon
In today’s world, there are scads of ways for musicians to raise money. Be it Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Patreon, the chances to raise funds for any project are legion. However, sometimes you need cash in a flash and for that, the old ways are always the best. Given that a bake sale might be a little too “church youth group,” punk quartet the Bad Ideas have gone with no less a time-honored tradition than the car wash, which happens Friday, June 3, from 3-6 p.m. in the back lot of the Blind Tiger.
It sounded like so much fun, we had to ask. Bad Ideas guitarist Britt Adair and new drummer Brit Schitt were cool enough to answer our weirdly enthusiastic queries.
The Pitch: Where in the hell did you get this idea? I mean, was it just a matter of needing to wash your van and then a light bulb flashed above someone’s head?
Britt Adair: This is the Bad Ideas’ first time playing out west. We keep dreaming about the beach and catching some rays, partyin’ in the van and swimming. I was making a list of shit to do before tour and cleaning up the van before we hit the road is a must-do!
What’s the price gonna be: set or “donate what you can”?
BA: We’ll take any kind of donation including snacks but prefer cash. We will not be accepting cards.
Is there a limit on how dirty or big a vehicle can be? Like, are you drawing the line at big rigs covered in hog poo?
BA: Our band is pretty chill. We’ll wash busted-ass cars and stuff, but if you show up with cars or trucks covered in poo, we’ll light it on fire.
How can folks be assured this is a quality idea? Do you have bona fides to which you can point?
BA: We offer the best car washing services in Midtown. Feel free to get drunk at the bar while we polish your car! Jerks pay extra.
Will there be tunes, like Rose Royce’s “Car Wash” on infinite repeat?
Brit Schitt: No! More along the lines of AC/DC, Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. You know, the same rad shit they listened to in the ’70s while washing and polishing up the Camaro and the Cragars on a Saturday afternoon, preparing to drive the same six blocks that night in small-town USA.
The Bad Ideas’ Suns Out, Buns Out tour kicks off Friday, June 17, at the Holy Cow with Faultfinder, Wick & the Tricks, and Varma Cross. See the rest of their tour dates on Facebook.
