The Australian Pink Floyd

Funny phenomenon, tribute bands. Maybe it’s something about capable musicians making a career off another artist’s music, indulging such a base desire of fans that it makes you wonder where the line between creativity and pandering gets drawn. And then there’s the sense of arrogance about a band that casts itself in the title role of its own hero-worship cult. Still, there’s something to be said for doing it right and doing it well, two things to which the Australian Pink Floyd Show can lay claim. After all, when ex-members of Pink Floyd need a house band for one of their own shindigs, it’s a pretty distinct honor to be the first name in the Rolodex. It makes you wonder, though — should we rename the Kansas City Symphony the “American Beethoven Band”?
