The Art of Joseph Smith

During the Second Friday Artwalk in KCK, check out the art of Joseph Smith.
From the artist’s statement:
My still life paintings allow me to explore the use of chiaroscuro as a major tool. I set my still life paintings up in a portion of my home that receives the sun on a southern journey for the play of light on the objects. My landscape paintings reflect my interest in lights, darks and especially shadows on trees and buildings. I see shadows as an important part of the composition. I feel that part of my task as an artist is to challenge the viewer. Provocative thoughts, questioning the approach as a spectator or just to say, “Okay I like it but I don’t know why.” I must create.
