The ACB’s feat. CES Cru live this Saturday: bliss or boner?

We don’t know quite what to expect from the live pairing of the ACB’s, one the city’s premier guitar-pop bands, and CES Cru, one of the city’s premier hip-hop duos, set for this Saturday night at the Record Bar. Nor do we know what to call it — ACB Cru? ACESCRU? CES B’s? All we know is the two groups have been practicing together with CES MCs Godemis and Ubiquitous freestyling on the verses of original ACB’s songs while the band backs them up and then sings the choruses.

It could be bliss or it could be … boner. It could be, for example, Aerosmith feat. Run DMC (bliss — novelty bliss, at least). Or it could be Coldplay feat Jay-Z (boner). History’s definitely not on the side of hip-hop-rock hybridization.

But personally, I think they’ll kill it. Yes, I have faith. (No, not that kind of faith.) Both groups are super talented and discerning, and I just don’t think they’d get up and do something if there was a chance it’d be embarrassing.

In any case, the evening should draw a diverse crowd, possibly with fly honeys from both sides of the rock/hip-hop divide. The show begins with drummer and funky loopster Brandon Draper at 10, followed by local up-and-coming MC Bayno, with the ACB-Cru mashup at midnight.
