TGIF Yer Pants Off

There’s a lot of good rock action this weekend, but I’ve heard some special buzz about two in particular. The first is tonight at the Hurricane, where locals Lovers in Transit and the Republic Tigers are joined by the Ultra Sonic Edukators. My sources have compared them with Blur, Supergrass and Teenage Fanclub — to which I say OK THEN! Be forewarned: they play first tonight, so get there early, no later than 10, I’d say. And wear your finest peacock suit because the band might be filming a video for its awesome song “Salle Green.”

There’s a good show at the Record Bar, too: Bleeding Hands, the Afterparty and the Popsicles, the latter of which being the which-one-of-these-is-not-like-the-others band on the bill.

Next, Jaq and Diane over at Sad Dog are barking up a storm about a Saturday show at Davey’s Uptown featuring, well, a bunch of cool people. I’ll just let the Dog speak:

Sad Dog and Spice of Life Productions presents a Holidaze Party & Rock and Roll Show!! @ DAVEY’S UPTOWN Featuring It’s Over, Buffalo Saints, Andrew Duplantis & Fred Ramirez and Jon Stubblefield

Our friend Andrew Duplantis is braving the elements and headed from Austin, TX to the great Midwest. One of the hardest working musicians in Austin, Andrew has quite a resume. Most recently he has been found playing bass with Son Volt and Jon Dee Graham. Past credits include stints with Alejandro Escovedo, Meat Puppets, Richard Buckner, Bob Mould and Tia Carrera. He just came out with his new solo album, “Color Blind” with his band The Unfaithfuls and is on a Duo Tour with band member Fred Ramirez. Andrew takes the stage at 11:00 pm, and this is just the icing on the cake as we have the cream of the crop of KC bands / musicians on this bill as well.

10pm: Jon Stubblefield – Channeling the sounds of Outlaw Country, like he was raised by Waylon and Willie themselves. A man to make Hank Williams proud! And bonus, tonight is Jon’s B-Day.

12am: Buffalo Saints – KC alt-country at it’s finest. Their album “Walking the Dead” doesn’t stray far from the disc player. [Extra exciting because these guys haven’t played in, like, a year and a half. — Ed.]

1am: It’s Over – Wow!!! Wow!!! If you haven’t caught the sounds of this 60’s and 70’s influenced, mid-eastern infused, high energy, make you dance your pants off group, you must take in the experience. We are proud to call these friends our friends! If you need a heavy dose of positive energy, this is the band for you!

Diana and I realized that this might be the one time this holiday that you will find us in the same room at the same time. We are busy ladies. So please join the ladies of Sad Dog and our friends Bill Sundahl and Wende Williamson of Spice of Life Productions (Crossroads Music Festival / Donkey Show), for a Holiday beverage and some kickin’ live music!!!!!
