Texas A&M gives notice, says it’s looking. SMU lobbies to join the Big 12

Texas A&M gave notice to the Big 12 Thursday that the Aggies will explore their conference-affiliation options. This announcement should surprise no one. The Aggies have been flirting with joining the SEC, and it’s probably going to happen.
Should A&M does pull out of the Big 12, Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin wrote that the Aggies “want to do so in a way that complies with the Bylaws and is supportive of your efforts to seek a new member of the Conference. We would appreciate your conferring with the other member institutions and outlining for us the process to be followed by Texas A&M should it withdraw from the Conference.”
Letters like this (Sports Illustrated has the full letter) don’t get released if you don’t plan on leaving.
