Tequila Party

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not the same as Mexican Independence Day. The spring boozefest commemorates a victory over French troops, while Independence Day — September 16 — honors the events that led to Mexico’s independence from Spanish rule.
To celebrate this momentous holiday, Teocali (2512 Holmes, 816-221-4749) is throwing a fiesta. The restaurant, just south of UMKC’s medical and dental schools, offers live music in the form of three guys playing guitars from 7 to 10 p.m. In addition to the bar’s 40-strong tequila menu, there are $3.50 margaritas, bucket specials (five imports for $12) and a special tequila drink called Cantiro Loco. Really, any drink that has the word loco is bound to cause some revolutionary action. The party starts at 4. For more information, see teocali.com.
